Captain Ibrahim Traoré stepped off the aircraft, and time in Burkina Faso held its breath. But this wasn’t just about his safe return. This was about what came with him and who came to meet him. The Prime Minister was there, but so was someone else. The Russian Ambassador. Standing shoulder-to-shoulder with the Burkinabé high command. That’s not protocol. That’s a message. And the message was clear: Russia is not a distant friend anymore. It is now physically present in the political theatre of Burkina Faso.
As the African Diaspora saying goes, "I am because we are, and we are because I am."

Elon Musk was born in 1971 in Johannesburg, South Africa, and raised in a wealthy family under the country's racist apartheid laws. Musk's family history reveals ties to apartheid and neo-Nazi politics. We speak with Chris McGreal, reporter for The Guardian, to understand how Musk's upbringing shaped his worldview, as well as that of his South African-raised colleague Peter Thiel, a right-wing billionaire who co-founded PayPal alongside Musk. "Musk lived what can only be described as a neocolonial life," said McGreal. "If you were a white South African in that period and you had any money at all, you lived with servants at your beck and call."

Through his fiction and non-fiction works, Nigerian author Chinua Achebe has sought to repair the damage done to the continent of Africa and its people as a result of European colonization. This is best exemplified in his most famous novel "Things Fall Apart," one of the first African novels written in English to achieve national acclaim. Set in the 1890s, the novel deals with the impact of British colonialism on the traditional Igbo society in Nigeria. Published in 1958 -- just two years before the end of a century of British rule in Nigeria -- the novel celebrated its 50th anniversary of publication in 2008. "An Evening with Chinua Achebe" featured the author reading from his celebrated work.
We’ve been sold a lie: that “Western Civilization” is the pinnacle of human progress, reason, and morality. But that’s propaganda talking.
I spent the first 21 years of my life fully indoctrinated in Christian Conservatism, which I now realize is the cultural foundation for the empire that is the United States. Deconstructing Christianity and colonization is a never-ending journey, but we all have to start somewhere because we all have a part to play in building a better, more equitable future.
And that’s gonna have to start with debunking the idea that we were ever the supreme civilization in the first place.

September 11 was Ethiopia’s New Year [this video has no sound]
Ethiopia rings in its New Year, Enkutatash, on 11 September, and not on 1 January, as the rest of the world does. The country’s unique calendar considers September, called Meskerem in the local language of Ethiopia, to be the first month of the year. The Ethiopian New Year Enkutatash means the ‘gift of jewels’. Legend has it that King Solomon of Jerusalem gave the Queen of Sheba jewels during her famous visit to Jerusalem some 3,000 years ago. Her return to Ethiopia after receiving the gift coincided with the New Year celebration in September, and hence the name Enkutatash came to be.
The number of daylight hours and nighttime hours happen to be exactly equal in every part of the globe once every September, which is one of the reasons Ethiopians celebrate New Year during this month. During this time of the year, the Sun and the Moon that are used to count time each have 12 hours before setting. The second reason is derived from the Bible, which says that the creation of the Heavens and the Earth took place in September.
Ethiopians believe that the month of September has different signs that explain why it should be celebrated as the beginning of a New Year. Blooming flowers, sunny days and a generally pleasant weather reign during this month. It is a time when people leave the rainy, foggy and thunderous months in Ethiopia’s winter period behind and move on to better days. The whole family comes together to light a bonfire in their backyard and dance around it in circles on the eve of the New Year. For the New Year celebration, young boys have a different role. Weaving their creativity into beautiful paintings that herald the coming of a bright new day, the boys go from one house to another handing out their works of art on the morning of the holiday to family members, neighbors and friends. Ethiopian girls approach you beating their drums, clapping and singing the traditional song, Abebayehosh. One of the girls leads the song and the rest respond to the lyric, chanting “lemlem”. They carry bright-yellow flowers called adey abeba, which grow in Ethiopia only from September to November. As a token of appreciation, people respond to the girls’ pleasant songs with a piece of bread prepared for the holidays, or with money – the latter taking precedence these days. young boys have a different role. Weaving their creativity into beautiful paintings that herald the coming of a bright new day, the boys go from one house to another handing out their works of art on the morning of the holiday to family members, neighbours and friends.(Serkalem Tafesse, 2018)

September 2025. France's government collapses. Prime ministers ousted one after another. Protests engulf Paris. Debt spiraling past 110% of GDP. Energy prices up 40% since 2022.
The headlines blame political chaos. Budget cuts. Macron's failures.
But that's not the real story.
The real story starts in Niger. With uranium. And a $500 billion rejection that nobody saw coming.
For 80 years, France paid Niger pennies for uranium worth billions. Niger got €100 million annually—just 5% of its budget. France? They turned that uranium into $74 billion in nuclear energy exports. Built an empire on African resources while telling the world they were "partners."
When Niger finally asked for a fair deal—raising royalties from 5.5% to 12%—French executives laughed. Called them dreamers. Shut down production to pressure them into submission.
Big mistake.
Because what France didn't understand is that this generation of Africans isn't asking for permission anymore. They're not begging. They're not waiting.
Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger, Chad, Senegal—one by one, they cut the cord. Kicked out French troops. Stopped depositing reserves in Paris. Renegotiated contracts. And when France tried to hold onto Niger's uranium? Niger nationalized the mines.
The economic model that kept France wealthy for nearly a century? Gone. The cheap uranium that powered 65% of French electricity? Cut off. The financial flows that propped up French borrowing? Dried up.
And now we're watching France discover what happens when extraction ends and reality hits.
This isn't just about France and Africa. It's about every system built on exploitation. Every relationship that only works when one side doesn't know they're being used. Every empire that forgets empires fall.
In this video, I'm breaking down the numbers they don't want you to see. The predictions experts made that the media ignored. And why Germany thrives without exploiting anyone while France crumbles without Africa.
If you want to understand the real forces reshaping global power—the ones the headlines miss—you're in the right place.
Hit subscribe. This is just the beginning.

Chinese President Xi Jinping’s Belt and Road Initiative has plowed billions of dollars into infrastructure projects in Africa. That’s given Beijing prime access to the mining resources that will underpin the upcoming technology, energy and transport revolutions.
Now the US has fully awakened to China’s ambitions. President Joe Biden is championing new investment in a railway that will transport copper and other minerals from Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo to the Angolan port of Lobito. But is it too late for the US to catch up?
