Chinese President Xi Jinping’s Belt and Road Initiative has plowed billions of dollars into infrastructure projects in Africa. That’s given Beijing prime access to the mining resources that will underpin the upcoming technology, energy and transport revolutions.
Now the US has fully awakened to China’s ambitions. President Joe Biden is championing new investment in a railway that will transport copper and other minerals from Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo to the Angolan port of Lobito. But is it too late for the US to catch up?

Nubia is a region along the Nile river encompassing the area between Aswan in southern Egypt and Khartoum in central Sudan. It was the seat of one of the earliest civilizations of ancient Africa, with a history that can be traced from at least 2500 BC onward with the Kerma culture. The region of Nubia is split between Egypt and Sudan. Nubia was divided into three major regions: Upper, Middle, and Lower Nubia, in reference to their locations along the Nile.

China is pushing Hong Kong as a global hub for Stablecoins, which are digital currencies backed by fiat money.
Western analysts correctly point out that China, uniquely among large economies, is aggressively building out the financial infrastructure and regulation for digital currencies, issued by the central bank. But these analyses err on a major point: the stablecoins issued by Hong Kong institutions will not be China-yuan denominated, as they assume. Instead, they will be denominated in US dollars, and will be a powerful driver of economic growth to the benefit of the Chinese financial system, and without exposing their own currency to outside speculators, seizure, or debt issuance.
To see how this may play out, consider the explosive growth of Tether, a stablecoin with stated US dollar reserves of $116 billion and 1-to-1 parity with the US dollar. The sudden rise and global acceptance of Tether serve as a playbook for Chinese banking regulators, who are sitting on nearly $4 trillion in US dollar reserves, with hopes to deploy these deep capital pools but without exposure to the Western banking system.

"CBS News announced it would examine the myths and facts of Malcolm X in a news special, "Malcolm X: The Real Story," to be broadcast Thursday, Dec. 3 (9:00-10:00 p.m.)
The program features scores of interviews as well as rare footage. Other material will be seen for the first time in more than 30 years.
"Malcolm X: The Real Story," reported by Dan Rather, traces the civil rights leader's life as he evolved from militant into moderate. Mr. Rather talks with the family and friends of Malcolm X.
According to producer Brett Alexander, CBS News has conducted network television's most extensive research on Malcolm X, including the examination of much of 50,000 pages of FBI material. "We have also pulled together the most comprehensive footage available from our own CBS News archives as well as from WCBS-TV," Mr. Alexander says. "And, we have assembled virtually all of the important people who knew Malcolm X."
The program includes interviews with Malcolm's widow, Betty Shabazz, as well as such important black cultural and political figures as Maya Angelou, Quincy Jones, Andrew Young, and Dick Gregory - who each reveal some insight into the provocative personality and dynamic principles of Malcolm X. In addition, a new generation of well-known African-Americans talk about the legacy of Malcolm X and the influence he had on their lives." - original press release
